The Junior Hedgeghogs started as a homeschool group to help socialize my homeschool children. It was basically a park day where we learn to play disc golf and make friends. The first meeting involved around 10 kids where most had never played. Somehow, the group continued to grow and through the support of the community, Innova, Dynamic Discs, MVP Sports, and the Educational Disc Golf Experience, we had discs and gear to give out to people and thus grow the sport in a way that has not happened in this area.

As I founded the group, a friend of mine decided to come help but I really think he just wanted to play more disc golf. Frank and I started having regular practices. Then Debby from Team Mint and a pillar of the women's disc golf community was eager to help. Having been a retired school teacher, she missed interacting with kids and teaching. This brought two of her loves together. With the core of our team, we have grown the group from 10 to at times 40 youth.
